2003 The following is Howard's campaign speech from October 2000 Hello, my name is Howard Baugues. I am running for membership chairman of NASS. I asked to be nominated because I would like to see NASS as a fully recognized and functioning car club, to help us all get some needed recognition for the Spitfire & GT6, that has been long ignored. I would like to see Wings formed and will help form and manage a Wing for the Central Midwest (Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee). I would like to see the Wings meet a few times a year and have at least one National event hosted by a different Wing each year. I hale from West Terre Haute, Indiana, which sets on the Indiana/Illinois border right on Interstate 70. I have only been a Spitfire owner since February of 2000, but have been interested in Spits and all LBC's for quite some time. I am not new to clubs and club functions. I am an active member of the Wabash Valley Water Garden Society ( located in Terre Haute, IN, that was formed in 1994. I was president for two terms 96-97, 97-98, and I asked not to be elected a third time to allow some fresh blood and ideas to lead us. I am currently Program Chairperson for WVWGS, and as such, arrange speakers and programs for our fall and winter meetings. While I was president of WVWGS, our membership grew from approx. 30 families to over 100 families, and remains over 100 families now. I am also a member of the Indiana Triumph Car Club, based in Indianapolis, IN. I just recently joined this club. I also am considering joining a local British car club (to attend local rallies) and possibly joining the VTR. I work full-time for a plastics packaging company (22 yrs) and I work in the research & development department. This gives me most evenings and weekends free to spend with my family and to spend on my hobbies. I hold an Associates Degree in Computer Programming, and have been a net user since 1995. I maintain two websites, split between my gardening hobby and my Spitfire. During the initial forming, I am sure I will make mistakes, and we, as a club, might make mistakes. I ask that everyone be tolerant of each others' views and work together to get this group running better than a finely tuned Spitfire. I am happily married to a wonderful lady (Ginny) that I met a few years ago online. She backs and encourages me to work on the Spitfire and to be active in club activities. She loves to take long country drives just to see the sights or watch the sun go down. I am willing to do whatever I can to assist in the formation and functioning of NASS. Thank you for your time and consideration. Howard R. Baugues |
